Building the Ultimate Air GUN Silencer: A Journey from Concept to Precision

The XK silencer, innovation and precision go hand in hand. One of my proudest creations is the custom-built air gun silencer, crafted using eSUN PLA+ ST filament—a decision born from rigorous testing, real-world experience, and a passion for performance. I would like to say upfront that the name XK for the silencer has no meaning at all Lol.

As someone with a background in the British Army and years of experience in Close Protection, I’ve always valued gear that’s durable, reliable and efficient. When I began developing a silencer for air rifles, I approached the challenge with the same mindset I’d take on any high-risk op: thorough preparation, the right tools, and zero compromise.

The Material Challenge

I initially tested a wide range of 3D printing filaments—from standard PLA and ABS to nylon and carbon fibre blends. While many offered good printability or surface finish, few could meet the balance of strength, cost-effectiveness, and long-term durability I demanded.

That’s when I discovered eSUN PLA+ ST. Unlike traditional PLA, this filament offers significantly improved impact resistance and heat tolerance. It delivered the rigidity and performance I needed, without breaking the bank or compromising print quality. After countless prototypes and stress tests, PLA+ ST proved to be the standout material.

Precision Through Collaboration

To ensure this wasn’t just another printed gadget, I partnered with American firearm and suppressor manufacturers, who offered invaluable insights into real-world suppressor design. I also worked closely with engineering firms and used high-speed slow-motion cameras to analyse sound dispersion and muzzle air release dynamics in minute detail.

Every tweak, every adjustment, was driven by data—and backed by real-world experience. The result? A silencer that not only performs exceptionally well but stands up to repeated use in tough conditions. Whether hunting or at the range, I have tried to make it a multi role-modular-monocore silencer with addons.

Built with Purpose

This wasn’t just a project—it was personal. Drawing on my military background, I designed this silencer for practical use: lightweight, durable, efficient, and easy to maintain. Whether you're a competitive shooter or a backyard plinker, you’ll feel the difference the moment you pull the trigger.

How a Silencer Works: The Science Behind the Silence

Ever wondered how a silencer (also known as a suppressor) actually works? I don't just design and build them – I also love diving into the engineering that makes them effective. Whether you're new to air rifles or a seasoned shooter, understanding the basics of suppressor tech can enhance your appreciation for the kit you use.

The Myth vs The Reality

Contrary to what Hollywood might have you believe, silencers don’t make guns whisper-quiet. Instead, they reduce the noise of the shot by slowing and cooling the expanding gases/air flow that follow the pellet or bullet as it leaves the barrel.

Think of it like this: when you open a bottle of fizzy drink slowly, it releases gas quietly. But if you pop it open quickly, it hisses and bubbles over. A silencer works on the same principle—controlling and slowing down those high-pressure gases.

The Core Mechanics

Inside every silencer are a series of internal baffles—carefully designed chambers that create turbulence and disrupt the flow of air. The monocore baffle give the air more space and time to expand and move around before exiting the muzzle. As a result, the sound is dramatically reduced.

In an air rifle, this means:

  • Quieter shots – especially helpful in garden settings or for pest control.

  • Less recoil – because the suppressor dampens the force slightly.

  • Improved accuracy – by reducing muzzle rise and stabilising the shot.

Engineering Precision

Building an effective silencer takes more than just stuffing a tube with baffles. I use 3D design tools, slow-motion cameras, and insights from professionals in the firearms and suppressor industries to test airflow, pressure, and sound suppression. This precision approach ensures every unit we produce delivers real, noticeable results.

A Perfect Match for Air Rifles

While air rifles produce far less noise than live firearms, a well-designed suppressor can make them near-silent, which is ideal for discreet target practice or humane pest control. Our suppressors are made from durable materials like eSUN PLA+ ST, offering outstanding performance without compromising on strength or affordability.
